Hydrogen peroxide was discovered by a French chemist Louis-Jacques Thenard in 1818. Believing that it was oxygen diluted into water he coined the now famous term eau oxygen.

Hydrogen peroxide - H2O2 - has a long commercial history, Its earliest recorded usage was for bleaching straw hats! The global production of H2O2 is now over 3 million tonnes and growing 4% per annum. Hydrogen Peroxide now finds major applications for bleaching pulp, in chemical synthesis, and in bleaching of textiles.
